Pukka Pads enhance workplace and educational accessibility

Since 1998, Pukka Pads have created and produced innovative paper-based products for the stationery industry.  Some of our most popular products with customers are Pukka Pads in various sizes.

Knowing that Pukka Pads always produce excellent products, we are excited to announce that we are now stockists of the Irlen range of products.  This range has been created with guidance from The Irlen Institute to help children to adults who have Irlen Syndrome.

But, what is Irlen Syndrome?

Irlen Syndrome is a condition that alters the brain's ability to process visual information and can be shown in a variety of different ways.  When it comes to reading and writing, someone with Irlen Syndrome may experience writing changes on the page.  This can make simple tasks at school, home or work difficult to complete.  The page may appear blurry, letters may float, words may double or be outlined or could even shake/swirl on the page.

Symptoms of Irlen Syndrome

Individuals with Irlen Syndrome may experience a range of symptoms, including but not limited to:

Difficulty reading, words may appear to move, blue, or change shape on the page.

  1. Eye strain, headaches and discomfort during or after reading.
  2. Light sensitivity and discomfort in brightly lit environments.
  3. Poor concentration and attention difficulties.
  4. Reduced reading comprehension and slow reading speed.
  5. Avoidance reading and writing due to the discomfort they cause.

How does the Irlen range by Pukka Pads help?

Coloured paper reduces the amount of contrast on the page, making it less stressful for the brain to look at.

Ways the Irlen pads can help:

  1. Reduced visual distortion: Using a coloured notebook can minimise the visual distortions experienced by individuals with Irlen Syndrome. The coloured paper acts as a filter, reducing the intensity of certain light wavelengths and making it easier for the brain to process information.
  2. Increased comfort and concentration: With reduced visual distortions, individuals can experience less eye strain and discomfort while reading or writing. This, in turn, helps improve concentration and allows for longer periods of sustained focus.
  3. Enhanced reading comprehension: Coloured pads can contribute to better reading comprehension. When visual distractions are minimised, individuals can better understand and retain information.
